    About the Service

What is PRP (platelet rich plasma) therapy?

It is a safe new form of regenerative medicine that utilizes the patient’s own blood. Why the platelets? Because they are a crucial part of the body’s ability to stop bleeding and to repair damaged blood vessels and cells in the body. They release proteins called growth factors when they are activated by contact with the body’s tissue. This activation promotes tissue repair and collagen production. You can inject PRP into any area where you would inject a dermal filler. It will not have the same effect as a filler since the two treatments work in different ways. However, it will stimulate collagen production in the area, which will be plumped with time.

What can be treated by PRP therapy?

    • Hair loss: concentrated plasma rich in growth factors and nutrients separated from your own blood are injected into parts of your scalp that need hair growth. They can be injected in your eyebrows & eyelashes too.
    • Dark eye circles: the injection of PRP speeds up blood vessel growth and collagen production to give the skin around your eyes a more full and youthful appearance.
    • Hands rejuvenation: PRP works magically in tightening wrinkled areas, and smoothing the overall look by stimulating collagen production
    • Stretch marks & scars: the injection of PRP releases platelets, which are growth factors, into the cells. This stimulates collagen production helping the skin to look tighter and heal within
    •  Wrinkles & large pores: the injection of PRP improves skin elasticity, shrinking enlarged pores over time and promotes collagen production, which helps in improving fine lines and wrinkles
    • Fine lines on the forehead
    • Fine lines & turkey neck
    • Thin & wrinkled skin of the upper eyelid
    • Wrinkled skin of the bust area

    Is PRP therapy painful?

Most patients do not find the treatment painful thanks to the local anesthetic cream. Yet, after the treatment, some patients might encounter mild swelling, bruising or itchiness for 2 days.

How many PRP treatments do you need?

Treatment protocols vary from one patient to another, hence, the number of treatments needed will be determined following our Dermatologist’s consultation. In general, patients over the age of 40 will need a course of 3 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Younger patients may only need 1. Most people start to notice results themselves around 3-4 weeks with continuous improvements up to 6-12 months after treatment.

Are the results of PRP therapy permanent?

They are long-lived but not permanent. At Silkor, we advise people to have a maintenance treatment once a year after their initial course.

What are the side effects of PRP treatments?

Because the treatment involves only injection of your own blood with nothing added to it, it is very safe. Side effects, if they occur at all, are usually mild to moderate. Immediately after treatment, most patients look a little puffy, particularly around the eyes. This is because the product is sitting within the skin and will settle over the next few hours. In some cases, there can be mild swelling persisting for a few days after the treatment. Many patients also complain of mild itchiness for the first 24-48 hours after the treatment. Bruising is reasonably common around the eyes because the under-eye area is very rich in small blood vessels and it is virtually impossible to avoid them.
