Apparently, Insulting Women Is Good for Business.
Apparently, Insulting Women Is Good for Business.
Let’s play a little game.
Open Instagram. Scroll for approximately 47 seconds. You’ll probably see an ad that says something like:
“Tired of saggy skin?”
Scroll again.
“Are your pores HUGE?”
Again.
“Dark under-eyes making you look exhausted?”
And somewhere between the sixth “fix your face” ad and the seventh cream promising to make you look 23 forever, you start wondering:
Was there something wrong with my face that I somehow didn’t know about?
Apparently, according to the beauty industry, there was.
A lot.
Welcome to the Beauty Industry, Where Your Face Is Apparently a Problem
There’s something genuinely funny about the way beauty advertising sometimes talks to women.
“Got a little cellulite?”
“Uneven skin tone?”
“Wrinkles?”
“Dark elbows?”
“Not loving your jawline?”
“Looking tired?”
And my personal favourite:
“Tired of looking like you hate your husband?”
Ma’am.
Maybe I do hate my husband.
Maybe my face is innocent.
But apparently, every perfectly normal feature on a woman’s body is now a problem waiting for a product, procedure or 30-second miracle solution.
And skincare isn’t exactly innocent here either.
You’ll see products marketed for “ugly” dark elbows, creams promising to make your under-eyes look less “gross,” and endless formulas designed to make your face look permanently plump, smooth and baby-like.
Because, heaven forbid, a grown woman should actually look like a grown woman.
When Did Looking Human Become a Beauty Concern?
Wrinkles happen.
Pores exist.
Skin has texture.
Under-eyes can be darker than the rest of your face.
Bodies have cellulite.
Faces move.
And sometimes you wake up looking tired because… you are tired.
None of that means you have failed at beauty.
Yet somewhere along the way, beauty marketing started turning perfectly normal human features into things we’re supposed to feel embarrassed about.
And honestly?
We think we can do better.
Yes, We’re a Medico-Aesthetic Company. We Know.
Before you start rolling your eyes at us:
Yes, we know.
Silkor is a medico-aesthetic company.
We offer laser treatments, injectables, skin treatments, body treatments and a whole lot of things designed to help people feel better about the way they look.
We are, quite literally, in the beauty industry.
So this might seem like a strange thing for us to say.
But we’ve been doing this for more than 30 years.
And if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that aesthetic medicine works best when the person sitting in front of you is actually listened to.
Not when you convince her that she has 17 new things to hate about herself.
We Don’t Want You to Come In Because an Ad Made You Feel Bad
If you come to Silkor and say:
“I want to do this because I saw my friend do it.”
Our answer isn’t automatically:
“Absolutely! Let’s book you in.”
It’s more like:
“Okay… but why?”
Because your friend’s treatment is your friend’s treatment.
Her face isn’t yours.
Her skin isn’t yours.
Her goals aren’t yours.
And just because something looked amazing on her doesn’t mean you need it too.
This is one of the most important parts of personalized aesthetic treatments: understanding what you’re actually looking for before deciding what, if anything, should be done.
If you genuinely want to treat something that bothers you, let’s talk about it.
If there’s a treatment that can help, we’ll tell you.
If there isn’t, we’ll tell you that too.
And if you absolutely do not need something?
We’re not going to sell it to you just because we can.
“But I Thought You’d Tell Me I Need It?”
Nope.
Imagine going to a doctor because you saw someone online get a treatment and loved the result.
You sit down.
You explain what you want.
And the doctor says:
“Actually, I don’t think you need that.”
That’s not us losing a sale.
That’s us doing our job.
At Silkor, we believe aesthetic treatments should enhance your natural features, not erase them.
That’s why consultation matters so much.
Before discussing a treatment, we want to understand what you’re concerned about, what you’re hoping to achieve and what would actually make you feel more confident.
Because sometimes the best aesthetic treatment is the one you don’t get.
Yes, we said it.
We Like Natural Results. Very Much.
There’s a difference between wanting to look refreshed and wanting to look like you’ve been replaced by your own face’s AI-generated version.
We’re firmly on team “still look like you.”
Whether we’re talking about skin rejuvenation, laser treatments, injectables, facial aesthetics or body treatments, the goal should be to work with your features rather than against them.
You should still look like yourself.
Just… perhaps the version of yourself who looks in the mirror and thinks:
“Okay. I like her.”
Not:
“Who is that woman and where did my eyebrows go?”
And No, We Don’t Want You Coming Back Forever
This one might sound suspicious coming from a business.
But hear us out.
If you come to us for a treatment, we’d actually love for you to eventually feel like:
“Yep. I’m good.”
Because the whole point of a good aesthetic journey isn’t to convince you that you constantly need fixing.
We want you to feel confident enough to enjoy your result.
To go about your life.
To stop thinking about the thing that bothered you in the first place.
And then, maybe a while later, you might come back because you want maintenance, because your skin has changed, because a new concern has appeared, or because you’ve decided you’d like to explore something else.
And sure, we’d be happy to see you again.
We do have a business to run. We’re not pretending otherwise.
But we’d rather have you come back because you want to, not because we convinced you that your face is a never-ending renovation project.
Your Aesthetic Journey Should Actually Feel Like a Journey
This is why we talk about the patient journey so much.
Because it shouldn’t start with:
“Here’s what’s wrong with you.”
It should start with:
“Tell us what you’d like to change.”
Then comes the consultation.
Then understanding your options.
Then creating a treatment plan that actually makes sense for you.
Then the treatment itself.
And then?
We don’t just wave goodbye while you walk out the door.
Your experience matters after the treatment, too.
We want to know how you’re feeling about your results, whether you’re satisfied and whether you have questions or concerns along the way.
Because good aesthetic care isn’t just about the hour you spend in the treatment room.
It’s about how you feel throughout the entire process.
So, Can We Retire “What’s Wrong With Your Face?”
Maybe.
Or at least use it a little less.
Because you don’t need to be convinced that your pores are “huge” before you can decide you’d like smoother-looking skin.
You don’t need to be told your face looks “old” before considering a skin rejuvenation treatment.
You don’t need to hate your body before deciding you want to treat something.
And you definitely don’t need an advertisement to tell you that looking like a normal adult woman is a problem.
At Silkor, we believe aesthetic treatments should be a choice, not a punishment.
If there’s something you genuinely want to change, we’re here to help you explore it.
If there’s something you don’t need, we’ll tell you.
If you want a subtle result, we’ll work toward a subtle result.
And if you walk out feeling confident, happy and completely yourself?
Honestly, that’s the whole point.
We love seeing your pretty face.
But we’d also love for you to leave our centre thinking:
“I don’t need to fix myself. I just did something for me.”
And that, in our opinion, is a much better beauty standard.
