What are varicose veins?

Varicose veins are blue and purple bulgy veins that occur when the pathways or valves that carry blood become damaged or weak. Once that happens, blood can pool in your veins, causing a bulge or swelling.

How vein ablation works?

Vein ablation is a nonsurgical, minimally invasive procedure that requires a small incision in the area to be treated.
The difference between vein surgery and ablation is mostly the downtime. The procedure with vein ablation is mostly in-and-out, however, with the surgery it might several weeks of recovery.

The Vein Ablation Protocol

The Do’s and Don’ts of this out-patient procedure

Before the treatment:

Inform the doctor about all health conditions, medications, vitamins, and/or supplements you’re taking.
Do not apply lotions, perfumes, deodorants, or nail polish.
Refrain from aspirin or any blood thinners.

During the treatment:

Anesthesia might be administered, to alleviate the pain. This all depends on the consultation between you and your doctor. In addition to that, bring someone to drive you post procedure, in case local anesthesia or sedative medications are administered.

The procedure usually takes an hour and during the treatment, your provider will detect your vein using an ultrasound, then make a small incision in your leg, usually below your knee or near your ankle. After:

What is Lipedema?

It’s a disease that primarily affects women and causes inflamed fat cells and it causes pain and abnormal sensations in the legs, hips, buttocks, and less commonly in the arms.

Lipedema appears in the form of big hips and legs in comparison to a person’s waist and upper body, while their feet remain the normal size. Pressure on the legs can be very uncomfortable and escalate to being very painful. These symptoms also worsen with hormonal fluctuations and menstrual cycle.

How is Lipedema treated?

It all begins with the proper diagnosis from medical experts or vascular specialists, as this disease is not very common and can be mistaken for another, hence why it should not be taken lightly.

There are many ways in which this disease can be treated, here they are:

Compression: Compression garments help to force inflammatory products out of the legs and prevent them from building back up.

Small skin growths that hang from the surface of your body, those are skin tags. These harmless and common extensions are made up of loose collagen fibers and blood vessels surrounded by skin.

After the consultation, the Dermatologist performs a minor surgery to remove unwanted skin tags, either by snipping the skin tag off with surgical scissors, freezing it with liquid Nitrogen, or burning it off with special chemicals.

Moles are small brown or black patches, which form on the skin. Moles are caused by skin cells that form in clusters, called, ‘melanocytes’, which usually produce the color or pigment in the skin.

After your consultation the minor procedure, called “mole ablation” is conducted by our Dermatologists. There are two ways in which this is completed, however before both a local anaesthetic is injected to avoid pain.

The 1^st method is surgical excision, which involves cutting out the entire mole and stitching the skin if necessary.
The 2^nd method, is surgical shaving, where the dermatologist uses a surgical blade to remove the mole.

Warts are small painless lumps that are firm and usually appear on fingers, knuckles and palms.
Verruca is the name given to a wart under the skin that specifically appears on the sole of the foot. They usually have distinctive tiny black dots, which are blood vessels and cause some pain.

During the consultation the Dermatologist will decide on the best way to get rid of your warts and stubborn verrucas without the risk of scaring. Usually, the procedure takes less than 30 minutes where the imperfections are either destroyed using an electric needle and curettage or it’s cut off.
Since this procedure is painful, it is performed under local anesthetic and may require stitches.

Milia are small white or yellowish raised cysts, bumps or spots on the skin caused by the build-up of Keratin under the surface of the skin. They are usually found as clutters around the eye area and cheeks, but can appear anywhere on the face or body.

Milia cysts are not contagious or harmful in any way. The best way to remove them is through “needle extraction”. Once the skin with milia has been cleaned, a sterile needle is used to create a tiny incision and the contents of the milia are carefully extracted.

Before your session:

Avoid exposing the area to sun or tanning beds or applying self-tanning creams 7 days prior to your session.
Apply a topical anesthetic for pain relief if you’ve got a sensitive skin.
Remove any makeup, creams, oil or body lotion/milk of the treatment area.
Make sure there are no open sores, lesions, allergy or skin infection affecting the treatment area.
Refrain from using bleaching and exfoliating creams 3 to 4 days prior to the treatment.

After your session

Apply cold gauzes or ice packs to reduce swelling.
Refrain from applying ice packs directly on your skin; instead, wrap it with a paper or a cloth towel, and make sure you don’t keep it in direct contact with the skin for more than 15 minutes at a time.
Monitor the treated area for blisters, swelling, crusts or scabs.
Avoid scratching or irritating the area during the healing process.
Do not use harsh soaps, medicated washes, scrubs and peels.
Keep the treated area hydrated with soothing cream(s) prescribed by your Silkor practitioner.
Do not expose treated area to the sun.
Avoid excessive sweating, swimming, saunas or hot tubs and vigorous working out for 24 to 48hrs.
Apply SPF 50 sunblock on the treated areas at all times.
Take painkillers only if there’s discomfort 24 hours after the treatment.

It is highly preferable to inform us if a medical issue arises during the treatment, be it a sudden diagnosis or an unexpected pregnancy. It might be necessary to reschedule your appointment as some medications and conditions might not be compatible with laser treatments.

What is PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy?

Before and After Rhinoplasty Surgery

The following instructions and guidelines will help your recovery process:

Before the operation:

Rest well, as your body needs all the energy it can get to heal.
Keep your face clean for sanitary and hygienic purposes, it’s very important to wash and exfoliate your skin prior to surgery.
Drink more water during the days leading up to your rhinoplasty – ingest about twice as much as you usually do.
Let someone be ready to drive you home post-surgery, for safety purposes – as the rhinoplasty is a one-day operation.
Get all the medication prescribed by your surgeon and have them ready at home before you have the procedure.

After the operation:

Elevate your head as much as possible during the early post-operative period.
Start your liquid diet as soon as you get home and gradually move to a normal diet. Avoid chewing for the first week and hot beverages for 48 hours.
Try to refrain from smoking cigarettes during the first 2 weeks after surgery as it hinders the healing and increases the risk of complications.
You will be given an appointment to come to the office for a follow up visit 2 or 3 days after surgery. At this visit nasal packing (if used) will be removed.
Avoid prolonged sun exposure for the first 3 months after surgery. Always apply SPF 30 if you’re going outdoors.

Initial wound healing may take 10 to 14 days. Sutures or clips will be removed when it is appropriate. You should be ready to return to work and normal activity after 10-14 days.
